Who do you all recommend?

I am currently with Scottish Equestrian but I think their renewal price seems quite high.

What would you expect to pay per month for a 18 yr old retired mare with no ailments?

NFU - not sure what you'd pay as I have youngsters but my two cost £56 per month to insure.

NFU, lots of people at my yard are with them and they are good if you need to claim. Just gone with them myself as they were significantly cheaper than many other quotes. I pay £650 for the year for an 11yr old SJ and the policy includes any rider, 3rd party, loss of use, vets, disposal...etc. They did not require any vetting certificate or tonnes of questions. Very quick and easy. Most of the other quotes were over £1000 for far less cover.

I'm with pet plan equine, must admit their slightly more expensive than NFU and a couple of the others, but give good cover and have never quibbled on any of my claims, paid up staight away. I must be the unlucky one with NFU though, had trouble trying to get them to insure me in the past, kept putting clauses on my policy and had problems trying to change details so cancelled it in the end...

for an oldie i would go with petplan you get more cover for you money!! nfu only insure £3000 on vets bills and external only whereas petplan insure £5000 on everything (except exclusions)

Carriage House - they are small, but excellent service. When pony was poorly vet asked who we were insured with and when I told him he said 'Oh good, you will be fine with them.' And we have been. You can call them and talk to a real person - often the same one you spoke to before! It's like magic. And they ask how pony is doing...as though they actually do care. Very nice.

Petplan all the way!!

Cover till 25 yrs for illness and injury, friendly staff who know about horses too. Nfu are good too
