Hi,
Just got my renewal and its gone up £17 a month to £54 a month. This is for a horse whos value was kept low at £2300, vets fees etc. I expected a rise after reading other experiences on here but after trying Petplan I got a shock as that was more expensive.
Anyone else had similar and who did you go with.

Im loathed to not have insurance as it wil be sods law something major will happen :(

They nearly doubled mine, and that was with the loyalty carp as well, it was the underhand way they cut me off and left me uninsured which pissed me off as well, I went with KBIS.

Thanks for that. I will give KBIS a ring tomorrow. I was shocked at Petplans quote as I thought it would only be NFU that was that expensive.

I have also just insured my 2 with KBIS. My mare was with NFU for 6 years with no claims and my payments had gone up by £14 per month. The vets fees limit is less with KBIS but it was still worth the swap.

I have also just had my renewal from the NFU and over two years the insurance premium for my two horses has increased by £600!!

I decided today to phone around and spoke to a very helpful lady at Julie Andrews Insurance who indicated most insurers will require at least a two stage vetting to gain insurance for our event horse? Not sure how much a two star vetting will cost but still this is getting silly!

NFU kindly offered a further discount having spoken to the underwriters but still £1400 for two horses to be insured is silly.

Any ideas?

Petplan were £200 more for me! SEIB £100 more and KBIS only £10 less and wanted a 5 stage vetting (she's valued at £3500, not mega bucks!).

My friend is with KBIS and over the years I have been less than impressed with their service to her. (continuous claim forms having to be filled out for every invoice sent in for an ongoing claim, ridiculous exclusions, bad attitude on phone). She is planning on moving to NFU when she can.

My increase from NFU was only £70 if you take into account the double discount they gave last year (which I think a lot of people have been forgetting they wouldn't get this year)

I amazed you are paying so much. I am insured with NFU and my pony's value is £3000 so more than yours. I am only pay £36.50 a month and that includes my saddle being insured as well. My insurance did go up this year by about £8 a month but I had made a few claims every year and I think insurance in general has being going up not just horse insurance.

Additionally you may find the cover is not the same with all companies. NFU have will contribute for livery costs if you need to stay in hospital and they will also pay for you to come back from holiday if there is an equine emergency.

You may be able to reduce the amount paid by taking off the public liability and getting gold membership of the BHS, alternatively you may find that if you are a member of BD, BSJA or one of the showing societies that the membership includes public liability insurance.

NFU want over £600 this year, it was £440 last year. Petplan want about£650 and KBIS about £500 like for like. If I reduce his value I can get it for £40 a month. Its the vets fees and PL Im most concerned about. OK Ive had 4 claim free years but I have claimed twice for £5k in our early days. Without that Im afraid he probably wouldnt be here. Ive thought about putting the money away each month instead but its piece of mind knowing god forbid anything major happens, he can have what ever treatment is needed without any worry.
I shall ring arround tomorrow and see. Thanks for your replies :)

When was your renewal. I seem to have missed the price rise each year until now. It was a bit of a shock although in the last few months Ive read more and more on here how there prices have risen so I was expecting it tbh. Ive been with them years and its always been about £35. They have been fantastic in the past but Ive heard they have passed the horse insurance over to someone else to deal with and that things have gone downhill. My horsebox is with them too and that is very reasonable.

I'm with KBIS and have had excellent service dealing with the 2 claims I have made in the last year - and at renewal last month by monthly cost has increased by £2 a month.

Because they got themselves in a mess with a backlog of claims they were sending SOME to another company to deal with. I had a run of claims over a year ago. when sent in we said we wanted NFU to deal with them direct and they did. Took a little while for the cheques to appear but had absolutely no problems getting any of the pay outs.

you have had a rise of £160.... have you worked out how much your double discount was last year? My increase was about the same as yours, but when I looked at the paperwork, I realised they had given me an extra £70 off last year, so the increase seems worse than it is if that makes sense.

Thanks for that. Ive not looked at the bonus for last year but I know what you mean. Its just such a lot of money. My car is half that and its worth about 5 times as much! I know its not the same thing but £54 a month hurts :)
