Horse Insurance Question???

Today I received a phone call from my insurer. This was to 'advise' me that at renewal (in one month's time) it would include (whether I liked it or not) theft and death.

I have been insured with this company for several years and am on a high excess, vets' fees only. The horse is old and I said that I didn't want to insure her for either of these......so, as stated above, I was offered no option - basically, take it or leave it. I think I will 'leave it'. The extra amount was considerably more than double. I cannot go to other insurers because of the horse's age.

Has anyone else experienced this? PM me if you wish.

Thanks in advance.

The same happened to me, I had three horses on that plan which they pulled. I was annoyed because if I had known that was going to happen, I would have been saving the money instead. I think they should have honoured the policy for existing customers but just not offered it to new ones. I have now cancelled all the policies and been saving in an emergency bank account instead.

Wulfie - I agree with you that they should not have pulled it for existing policy holders However, like you, I will vote with my feet (or hooves) and cancel.

I wonder how long it will be before insuring a horse/s is no longer a feasible option??

I don't think its feasible anyway if you have any number of horses. I added a fourth animal (a foal) to my collection recently and the insurance would have been at least £1000 per year. If I can save that religiously instead, I have the cost of, say, an operation covered within 3-4 years. A good friend has around 10 horses (!!!) and has had for many, many years - she has only ever had to pay out for one operation I think which was around 4K. And hers are hunters/ advanced team chasers!

erm i took out pet plan insurance last week and hes 15! anyone know any better insurers because what they have done is out of it!
