I have a cob and New Forest pony that are mainly used for hacking. My policy for both is up for renewal and they are quoting £900 per annum for the 2 which seems excessive. Can anyone recommend an insurance company please?

Anyone got any experience of the Insurance Emporium and Petplan too.

Thanks in advance

Ive just been discussing insurance on here. I have 4 so know the feeling. E&L have been very good. £280 full cover including vet bills for one. Ive used the insurance emporium before and yes good price bit a slow payer and make you jump through hoops. When I told ny vet they were my insurance company he warned me of that. I don't insure for vets bills anymore instead I put money back every week into a separate saving account via direct debit.

I'm a vet, small animal, not treated a horse in 12years, and all my guys are insured with petplan. I didn't look anywhere else. Never had an issue claiming apart from they not paying for a dog toy I accidentally put through.

Carm has malignant melanoma, they paid for the oncept vaccine which only licensed for dogs without a murmur.

E & L are notorious for wriggling out of claims. Vets won’t deal with them at all.

Try Julie Andrews Insurance Services to get some good quotes (they quote on Petplan too). I went through them and ended up with Scottish Equestrian. They cover all costs at hospital including livery fees which most don’t, so when my horse had a stay it only cost me the excess.

I really can’t see any point in insuring at all if you don’t have vets fees included. BHS do public liability included in membership so that’s all I’ve got now mine are veterans.

E&L have paid out fine. Sadly lost my young lad in September and they were very good, even with me being my usual sniveling useless self. The people were very kind. The only ouch was the excess as it's a percentage.

For the dogs (Rotties and GSD) it's Petplan as they offered the best deal for big dogs of these types.

Insurance premiums are really rising quite steeply.

Ive just been getting quotes for my young horse as I plan to insure him for the first couple of years of his working life.

Crazy money even when on a minimal value.

I’m not surprised at £900 for 2 horses, quotes for a 2K 3yo we’re coming in at 600-1000 for full vet cover

I remember years ago insuring Sparky for everything including vets bills for about £100 a year! I claimed once for a hernia. That op cost £350. Dread the cost today!!!

Thanks all. Currently with Scottish Equestrian via Julie Andrews and agree always been excellent; after talking to JA today they are saying that premiums with Scottish Equestrian have gone up 15% excluding the hike in tax and recommended Petplan. They agreed my quote was cheaper to go direct so probably due that as they will insure up to 25 years old.
