Hi all,

I STILL have not got round to organising damn insurance for one of mine! Please could you let me know which company you think offers the best quote but also best service (in the event I did claim in future).

It would be cover for the 3 most expensive things (damn it!): loss of horse, loss of use and probably vet bills.

Also, I know they require a 5 stage vetting - is it just the usual 5 stage, ie. don't need xrays etc. do they? Am trying to work out how much it'd all cost that's all!

i've ticked other..NFU...but then i have everything, horses/lorry/trailer/livery yard/business/4x4 insured with them so get the obvious multi-policy discounts...

they are good for horse ins, pay out promptly..for me anyhow, and the policy can be adjusted to your needs.....

I've put SEIS for both but with reservations as they've recently been taken over and I think are being much stricter about exclusions and also insist you tell them about all vet treatment regardless of whether you're claiming or not.

In the past they've been brilliant with my endless claims for accident-prone TB and navicular Arab.

SEIB have been amazing. Had a big claim for surgery and they were fantastic to deal with. Premiums are very fair and they are great about being fair with exclusions and actually listening to the veterinary reports.

NFu for me

I have been with carriage house insurance before and they delt with my claim very well when I lost my horse. For the last few years I have been with scottish equestrian but luckily never had to claim so can't really comment. Although a bit dearer I am now with Petplan because of their policy on older horses but again haven't claimed.

Hi Everyone im new, but im insured with AmTrust Equine and they are fab. I went to Your Horse Live this weekend and met some of their staff and they were really friendly and helpful. A lady came to their stand when i was there and she had had a claim with them and said they were really good and she had received the money within 5 days!!! They were also giving away goody bags at show with thermo mugs and polos etc so they get a big thumbs up from me.

NFU , SEIB and AIMS have all beengood with claims- AIMS is by far the cheapest premiums and they are very friendly on the phone. Generally if the horse has a value below £3k then you dont need vets certificate with NFU or AIMS.

I've previously been with NFU and SEIB though was lucky enough not to have ever had to claim.

Moved to SEIS this year (through Julie Andrews) and am now putting through a big claim so keeping my fingers crossed that the pay out without any problems.

Definitely NFU, used to use Bankers Equine who were good but they were taken over. Petplan were dreadful - allocated injuries to the wrong horse, refused to change their records, excluded one of my horses' legs when they had only been phoned at the time of the incident in case there was serious damage/forthcoming vet's claim - there wasn't.

Anyway NFU are excellent, no quibbles about paying out, were fantastic with my friend when her 6 week old lorry was stolen with a lot of her gear in it, they offer rug theft cover etc. etc. I have 3 horses, tack, and trailer cover with them. They also have more sensible categories for levels of competition covered. When I switched from Petplan I also saved a substantial amount on my premium whils getting more comprehensive cover.

NFU DON'T require a vet cert?! My horse is valued at more than £3k, Im insuring him for £8k (still below his actual value if I sold him) - do you think they'll have a cut off where they WOULD require a vet cert?

I looked at the NFU site, do they not offer online quotes? And is is cheaper overall if I became a member of NFU?

KBIS are fantastic. They paid up for my horses within 3 days direct to the vet so I had no messing around. I couldn't believe how easy it was.
I used to be with NFU but cancelled as they wouldn't pay out as there was some minor thing I'd done wrong

I think with NFU if its over £5,000 you need a vert cert.

NFU paid up Murph's vet's bills with no problems and also tend to say that they also can help with other stuff, like extra keeping costs if on box rest. They were not so easy to get a loss of horse claim out of them, but weren't finale in their decision and re-opened my case and re-investigated etc when asked and then did pay up (although not full amount but nearly most of it). So they are approachable.
