NFU - excellent

I recently had a good look and here is what I found

Presume you know to avoid E& L also watch out they advertise as someone else too, so if you find one that is a lot cheaper than any of these you can be sure it is them and the are not good!

Petplan a tiny bit dearer (can't remember much else)

NFU only cover 50% of MRI scans (I double checked this)
but they also cover 50% of stabling at horsepital

South Essex cover 100% of MRI but none of stabling costs.

Loss of use (pretty sure I remember this right)

NFU have 2 100% which they deduct what ever the value of the horse then pay the rest

75% do not deduct anything

south essex is the same for 100% but have 80% with nothing deducted

Vet also told me that NFU are getting a bit tougher on exclusions

So went back to South Essex as I know they pay out very well (so much so its a wonder they didn't refuse to insure my new horse saying I was too much of a liability) 3 horses all claimed for one over £8,000 in total for different things never once tried to not pay. Also they do the BHS cover

I would not recommend SEIB after being on the receiving end of when they decided they did not want to pay out even though they had accepted the claims, fortunately for me the financial ombudsman agreed with me but still left me heavily out of pocket. Have heard of many similar stories too so clearly not just me.

I disagree with alsxx

I have had no problems with seib and have always found them provided you inform them throughout as paying out very quickly no problem what so every.

I have had two large genuine claims payed out by them with two different horses.
agree barge pole e &l.

Nfu are menat to be excellant except you cannot deal with them online, I have also used petplan who I also had to claim with, they also paid out quickly however of late I have heard stories that suggest they might not be quite as good as they used to be, however that could just be a sign of the times.

If you need some information on what to look for when choosing your horse insurance take a look at www.horsecover.co.uk which gives plenty of advice on what horse insurance covers and what to look for in a good horse insurance company.
