It depends on what you have and how much your horse is insured for I was paying £55 pm that was 5 years ago but that was for a comp horse, but if you just have basics and your horse is not insured for to much I would say thats a lot

I have all my insured with petplan and I have to say I am very impressed with them,
I get a reduction because I have them all insured and if you have any problems and need to claim you even get a letter out afterwards asking how your horsey is!

I am with NFU & their quotes are competative & I have never experienced any problems making a claim.

It is very rare that insurance quotes don't go up each year. As veterinary bills rise insurance premiums must rise also to cover the additional costs. In recent years vets seem to want to use their scanners for everything & this is expensive. Some insurance companies will not pay for scans unless you get their authorisation in writing first.

Have you actually rung them and queried it? We had the same thing last year but they reduced the price substantially after a phone call, it's got to be worth a try.

I am with NFU, they are really good. Its £26 per month, covering basics and she is insured for £5000, any more than that and it goes sky high! they are great with claims too, have never questioned any of mine, just paid straight out.

Ditto NFU, and despite making a number of claims on one horse over the last few years their premiums haven't shot up, £2 a month at most. Can't recommend NFU highly enough.

I have insured with petplan for 16 yrs and have had a few big payouts from them quick and easy as I said in last post I was paying 55 pm on a comp horse but am only paying £9 pm on my filly and would recomend them.

£50 a month???????? how much is your horse insured for? My horses are insured for £15k and £4k and i pay £120 a month for the both of them combined, cant remember who with off the top of my head, as i shopped around for ages to get the best deal........

I didn't used to pay monthly, but it would have equated to about £55 or £60 p/m for Bo who was insured for £7.5k. It does depend on all the 'extras' you add in....vetinary to varying levels, tack, disposal etc...

Thats what I would have said until I bought my recent horse, and they refused to insure him

Not because of the horse, but because I have got an IVA

- of course I was expecting to pay the premium up front, not monthly, but why does my bad credit rating affect whether my horse is likely to get ill/injured?

Obviously I am just too much of a risk now....

NFU all the way, my horse had a fatal puncture wound last year and NFU came up trumps and were so good about things. They paid out over £4k in vets bills, then the amount he was insured for and also £250 towards his cremation.....all this in 4 weeks.....wouldn't use anyone else and they were certainly comparable if not cheaper than the others.

NFU for me too. I was with the one that has leaflets in every magazine - and they just kept changing the price every few months - apparently increasing my benefit!

I changed to NFU - £70 for pony, horse and trailer. And excellent service.

Great! I work for NFU as an equine underwriter - i'm the poor person stuck at the desk deciding what terms to put on your policy following claims! Sounds like I'm doing a good job! I have never heard a bad word about NFU and really do believe that they are an empatheic company and we really do value all of our customers not just farmers! Our rates do increase slightly to keep within the market and to ensure we generate enough money to pay the claims! It doesn't matter where you go - sometimes it gets cheaper , sometimes it gets a bit more expensive depending on how much money comes in and how much goes out but ours claims service will always stay the same - fantastic!
On another note to all those people who still ride a riding schools - if you fall off - please do not claim (unless it really was the riding schools fault - though I haven't seen that yet). The more people that claim, the more the premium is for the riding school you go to and the more likely they will close because they can't afford to pay the premiums. Soon we will have nowhere to ride because of all the people that claim for injuries - just think before you do - was it really their fault or am I just after some money?
