Horse is incredibly snappy in front, is this a good thing?

Personally I think it looks horrible!! And why is the same clip being played over and over in trot??!! A personal pet hate in a lot of dealers videos that I don't know why they do!! (perhaps the only glimmer of hope the horse - not this one but in general - has shown and they want to cash in on it lol). The riders hands seem to be doing something a bit weird too - I'm guessing something horse related rather than how rider normally rides? Also my dutch isn't great but does it say at the start of the clip the horse is 7??!! Would expect it to look a lot more established? And would also like to see some collection too rather than just belting the horse out.

But I by no means know what I'm talking about, they are just my gut feelings, and the vid was put up in 2008 so its prob doing Grand Prix now lol!!

I think he's gorgeous, really really athletic and would be super-impressive if ridden slightly differently. He's just being belted round at warp speed, confusing speed with impulsion - and not giving him a chance to show off his lovely expressive paces. I'd put money on him being stunning if a few judicious half halts were applied, and he was slowed down a tad.
Not picking on the rider btw - it's very hard to be secure on a big moving horse who's got a bit of rattle on...

I don't see a problem with this horse other than being hurried along a bit. Overall I would say he is not particularly exciting for dressage as the hind leg is not doing much and the walk is poor.

Rider saws a bit with hands. Horse lacks impulsion from behind and is being pushed out of pace esp in the canter. Once encouraged to sit back onto the hindquaters should look better. I quite like him but yes for a seven year old video doesn't show much of what the horse can do.

I also owned a KWPN by Lancet. I would never normally say this about a horse, but it was the most vile thing to ride ever. Lets just say he didn't go forwards. I'm sure Lancet produces good stock but this boy was very similar to the one in the video and had a similar trot - very extravagant use of the forelegs. That was about all he could do well and not a trainable temperament. Very weedy, modern KWPN type and a big mistake in buying him!

Not my cup of tea, more extravagent than correct, but some folks will love it
Mabe its the fact that its going round like a bullet thats not helping.
It would be interesting to see more than the tiny we clip repeated over and over again.

^this!

I just think the action is so fake. It's not true to classical dressage at all! There is no proper engagement to speak of, it's all show show show... I can't stand it.

There should be a seperate class of dressage: Showy Fake Dressage & Classical.

The horse is just being ridden out of its stride - far too fast. Walk is not the best - looked to be uneven but again this could be because it's being ridden out of it's stride.

Rider is having trouble riding the elevation in the trot and has very unsteady hands as a result.

A nice horse - nothing outstanding though

I don't see how you can analyse the horses movement when he is being pushed along to the point of losing his balance. No horse can show engagement at the speed he's motoring. Even the best moving horse around is not going to be able to show himself off to his best advantage when rushed to that degree.

I saw a lot of this from jumping riders on one of the yards I trained on in Germany. The difference when you put a dressage rider on was staggering. I wouldn't discount this horse personally based on this video. I'd want to see him being allowed to balance and use himself correctly - but I suspect there is a very nice horse in there, who cannot show himself off in any pace whilst ridden like that.
