My new horse keeps on jumping out of his field. ... does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep him in the field?! He currently is in a single paddock and has 4ft electric fencing but still getting out. He has horses next to him and all around so hes not on his own. Does anyone have any suggestions? As this is quite a worry!

My pony is the same, although he breaks the electric fencing down! So I know how worrying and frustrating it is.

Tips I have had are:

Put a second fence inside the original fence to make it harder to jump over
Make the fence higher
Put horse with company (they really can get upset on their own even if they can see and touch another horse)

You need to look at how he is to start with. Do they have enough food, water, shelter, company?

My pony is now in a different field and he has not escaped once. He obviously feels more comfortable where he is.

How long has the horse had to settle?

He has everything he would want in his field , water, grass, company that he can touch noses with 3 horses but can also see about 20 all in different paddocks. He has only been with my since saturday and goes out every other day so he has only been out 3 times but on 2 of those times he has jumped out! I will try him in a different field later on today and if that doesnt work then maybe try putting higher fencing and doubling up! At least when I come to Show jumping he has no excuses! It is a worry isnt it!!! x

He is probably just worried, he is in a new home, new horses, new fields, new owner, new routine. Was he in with other horses in his old field?? Is he jumping into other horses or a gang way?? Hope he settles in soon for you.

Hopefully he will settle down - as whilst im at work im worrying that hes out! He wasnt really turned out because since coming from ireland hes basically been stabled because the fields were so bad ... He jumped into the track this morning but on wendesday he jumped onto the track and then into another free single paddock! So i dont think hes botherd about the other horses so much :s xx Thank you for your advice :)

Does he have a shelter? My mare used to jump out, to go in the shelter has she never had one in her paddock.
Since moving her, she now has a shelter, and since then has never jumped out.
