Horse killed by puma?

I don't think this is the horse mentioned a couple of weeks ago as that was in Kent and this is in Ross on Wye.
Awful for horse and owner.

The easiest way to discount a cat attack as a dog attack is where the animal is 'taken down' - broadly speaking, cats will take down from behind, dogs will go to the front and grab the head and neck.
I'd need to see pics but this does sound more like a cat attack judging by the reported sites of the bites. And if a dog was capable of jumping into a stable, even more reason, in an enclosed space, to go for the throat.

I used to live near Ross on Wye and have witnessed first hand a big cat in fields at fairly close range.

Yes - the report say's savaged but the headline says "Puma blamed for horses DEATH" so not sure which

Hopefully it is just the newspaper going with a big headline and the horse has been injured and will make a full recovery, fingers crossed

Hi I live in Ross-On-Wye, upton bishop not far from where the horse was attacked! The horse is quiet old but vet has confirmed that horse will make full recovery as u can imagine myself and many other people have been very worried about cat attacking more horses/ponies or other animals but thankfully hasent!!!! They have had cat experts out 2 look at poor horse called Henry and they are 95percent sure that it is Big cat! The cat was then spotted up road in Hoarwithy area!! No other reported attacks yet!!! The scary thing is there could be more than one cat, for all we know it could have a family! will try and keep everyone updated!!! X

Also as horse was in strip grazzing you could actually see the track where the cat had been following the horse untill it attacked horse from behind!!!
