Hi, my gelding went lame a couple of weeks ago, he could barley walk and was trying not to put his heel to the floor on his front leg. The next day he was fine and I thought maybe he'd just twinged something, but then he went lame again. I called the vet and she said get the farrier out, farrier found a deep hole with a but of muck quite high up so dug it out and tried to put a poultice on, he managed to keep one on for two days and after that I kept a field boot on and tried to keep it clean.
Farrier came back out yesterday and said hole had healed up ok and he looked nearly sound, and put a shor back on. today he can barley walk again, again trying not to put his heel to the ground :(
Any ideas what it could be?
I'm going to have to get the vet back out I know but I'm worried it's something serious.

Sounds like the abscess hasn't finished. You obviously need the shoe removed again, if it's not already been done.
