Hi everyone
I called the vet last week and she came out and assessed my horse with her not being "quite right" she wasn't diagnosed but was hopping lame and had a tiny bit of heat in one leg and not the other, no swelling or cuts/grazes. She was given a course of bute which she finished today and she is still not sound. (Wishful thinking she would be by now) while on bute she's been lame and sound in between.
I've phoned the vet back but none of the vets were available and I'm waiting for a call back now. Would anyone know where we go from here... I'm pulling my hair out with worry 😢

Get the vet back, if thwy cant give you a diagnosis then ask for a referral to an equine hospital for a full lameness workup

I'm waiting for them calling back now. I'm lucky enough to have had horses for 25 years with so much as a stumble. Dealt with abscesses before but I've no idea what this could be :-( is there ways for them to determine and pinpoint the exact problem?

yes they should be able to nerve block - try not to panic. if your vets are not equine specialists I would get an equine specialist to do the work up.

It'll be quicker and probably also cheaper to take her in to a good equine hospital than to have repeated home visits from a non specialist vet. Your vets can refer her on if they aren't specialists or don't have a clinic. A good horsepital has all the x ray and scanning equipment etc on site, so they can crack on with a full lameness workup.

If you don't know of a good local equine practice, maybe if you give your location people can offer suggestions of good ones?

Good luck.

sounds like a abscess to me too, knock backed by the bute. Did they hoof test her before prescribing bute?
