Sorry, the details are vague at the moment..

A horse has been left in a field owned by a farmer I know in Alveley, Shropshire. It has been reported to the police and they are dealing with it - no one local recognises it at the moment but everyone may not be aware of it yet, there are quite a lot of horses around here. It appears to be in good health but my friend will check later - it has plenty of grass and water.

The farmer has described it as a cob with feather, gelding, brown, about 14/15hh - though please bare in mind he probably better at describing cows..

I have emailed pictures of the missing cob 'Tommy' to my friend to see if it could be him when she checks later.

Pretty certain this must be Tommy! I got this from a member of the family tonight -

"Tommy was found 30 odd miles from home, abandoned in a field, washed and plaited. We think that he just got too hot to handle due to all the fantastic work everybody did via email."

I'm sure someone will be online to give a full update, but as you'll understand they must have other things to think of at the moment.

I still haven't had it confirmed but unless Tommy has an identical twin it was him in that field

Fantastic result, so pleased he has been found

Now I'm worried that the scum who stole him is nearby, everyone will have to be on their guard

Hopefully there will be a happy post on here soon confirming that Tommy is safely home.

That sounds so very very promising, will keep everything crossed that we get confirmation soon.
Agree though it is worrying that whoever stole him is obviously still local to Shropshire.

Congratulations to the owners of Tommy on being re-united with him.

I work in the Shropshire Division of West Mercia Police and run the messaging system that played a small part in bringing them back together again (I imagine word may well have got around anyway!).

I, along with my counterpart in Telford, run a community messaging service www.safer-shropshire.org and www.twpcm.org , there are many such services run by the police across the UK which are free to join.

We took the call from the finder, Alveley, and broadcast the message to our 250 Rural Horsewatch (not to be confused with The Shropshire Horsewatch!) members at 11:30 8/10/09, it was relayed on by Telford and one of their members contacted the loser, and within five hours of the first call the ownership of the horse was confirmed.

If any of you want to join then click on the above links and scroll until you find the APPLY HERE button, just make sure in the notes you mention you are interested in Horsewatch. If you’re not resident in Shropshire, or close to, you can contact your local police force to see if they offer something similar.

Apologies for being a thread-hogger and congratulations to Katy again.
