Horse licks and ulcers?

Will ask my vet his options when he is out on friday, however thought I would ask here first! Do licks (such as salt or flavoured ones) help aid digestion or have the opposite affect? I only ask as my horses has suspected ulcers ( vet Friday!)
I have my opinions but I'm not very well versed on horse biology... Only human!

Anything with added sugar, such as most of the flavored licks, will be bad for ulcers. The plain salt/mineral ones are OK.
