The little boy tends to fall behind the bit and is very reluctant to take any form of contact up. He's in a simple eggbutt snaffle, and before that in his rubber straightbar (as had just been broken).

I'm thinking of getting two bits from shop4bits to trial, one a cyprium french link full cheek and another a loose ring happy mouth roller.

Do you think this is a good idea? I was going to try him in both, and see which he preferred.

I have same problem with new horse. She is happiest in happy mouth with lozenge which is only about £12 bought mine from equestrian clearance.

Oh dear I was afraid of that! Purely fashion reasons make me want a cyprium, but obviously if he prefers the happy mouth then that's what comes first.

I ordered a bit from Shop4Bits Monday last week. they have taken my money but I've not got the bit yet and they don't answer thier phone or respond to my emails.
Not sure if they are crap or dodgy but don't go to them if you're in a hurry!

Both those you mention are certainly worth a try, my old horse loved to sit just behind the bit, I found he went best in a KK ultra.
The main thing I have found with this habit is to learn how to ride them, no joke it took me 4 years before I found an instructor that really helped me get my horse to take the contact up and forwards.
Oh, and without wanting to state the obvious, make sure his teeth are done by a good equine dentist

Thanks B&J that's a really helpful post.

He's just had his teeth done by a dentist who was recommended to me (we are new to this area), and had back and new saddle and new comfort sabre bridle, so he's certainly pretty pampered!

I'll try these two (though maybe not from shop4bits) and hope for the best.

Bit World are excellent

HHO have a bit bank! Might be worth a try

I think you need to decide what sort of bit you want first then they will find out if any other users have it.

I would definitely try a Happy Mouth (I swear by them!) and have a French Link as I believe they are kinder to the month than an jointed (not so much Nut cracker action) Maybe go for Eggbut, and a loose ring may move too much for him, therefore he would be less wanting to take up a contact.

my boy did this, and he is now in a rubber mullen mouth snaffle (for all phases) and is super in it. he doesn't like any jointed bits and I find this fantastic

I can't get hold of shop4bits, and bitworld doesn't have anything I'm after. I'm definately going to try the cyprium french link full cheek and a happy mouth peanut (not loose if possible) but I haven't a clue where to get any from to try!

I can't find the other bits people have mentioned, and I think he's better in something jointed afterhis rubber straight which he did NOT like (moreso than his current eggbutt).

Where/how do I use the HHO bit bank? Is there any other bit banks out there?
