Following on from the "abused" motorcyclist post, let me put this one to you.

I live and ride on an approach road (2 lane) to a major competition centre. Whilst I find that trailers and small lorries (6.5 and under), always slow down the same as a commercial driver, the same can not said for all the horsey hgv. Some seem to go past at a fair whack - but usually give me a cheery wave as they go.....

So if you are driving said hgv, possibly late for your class, what do you consider to be a safe speed to pass a horse smothered in hi-viz that appears to be hacking calmly?

On a country road ...slowly and wide even on a major road you a least need to hang back so if there is something coming you can still pass wide , sadly a lot of the HGV horseboxes are owned or driven by the semi or proffesonal competitors who have shall we say a certain attitude
happly VOSA are getting after them and making sure they comply with tacho and opperator licence rules so if you did want to make a genuine complaint about dangerous driving you could get in touch with the area traffic office or the police and it should be taken seriously...

i dread meeting a horse when driving my lorry. i don't know why, but i just do. i always slow down as much as poss, sometimes i think i probably make things worse by going too slowly (the horse probably just wants me to hurry up and f off...)

I generally find horse box drivers a lot less considerate than ordinary lorry drivers round here. We live quite near an indoor school competition centre and it is noticeable how often horse boxes are impatient.

I had a pony that had been made traffic shy by being hit by a horsebox, of all things, close to this centre. If she saw a high sided vehicle approaching she would whip round and try to run away. Completely quiet in all other ways.

Not all are inconsiderate, I must add.

I dread meeting horse boxes when hacking one of my mares they never seem to slow down and my mare is awful with lorries if they are comming towards me she usually spins around if im notquick enough stopping her the the horse box is going to quick to stop. Yet we have a load of timber lorries (don know if this is what they are called the ones with logs on the back) and they stop and let me pass or let me get out of the way
