I am refurbing my horsebox and would like to install a hydraulic ramp. Now I am technical electrically, but not in hydraulics, though I can usually adapt to general engineering.
does anyone have any idea what components I would need to do the job from the 24v supply.
I realise there is a specific forum for lorry building but wanted to let as many people see this query as possible to search out any experts,
thanks for your help in anticipation.:p

No idea on the technical side, but please have a manual override as if the electrics are damaged in an accident or fire ,the ramp will not come down.
There was a fire in one and the ramp was eventually forced down and I think the horses were saved, but it put me off having a hydraulic ramp, I cannot imagine anything worse than seeing a lorry on fire with horses in.

As above really, I saw a box at a local show not long ago that the ramp got stuck part way down and would not shift it took at least 5 hrs to get it down and then load the horses onto another box cause the ramp was still broken.

Sorry cant help either but in case you wasnt aware, they also drop like a ton of bricks when you do use the manual override as one poor poor woman found out. She tragically broke her back :(.

Im sure someone will be able to help you with your query though later on when its busier :)

I think most people use a modified power pack from a tail lift which is a motor driving a hydraulic pump .. alter the ram and add a ajustable valve and manual valve to alow it to lower if the electrics fail.. however if you get the springs right a manual ramp should be easy to lift its lighter and has less to go wrong so for me simple springs are a win win ...

many thanks everyone for the quick replies.
I will be fitting a manual override, and a control valve.
My technical problem is
1 what power pack
2 what size Hydraulic pump,
3 what size ram (double active)

4 how to make the fitting bracket and how does it fit to the ramp.

1 powerpack of a normal coluum tail lift
2 incorperated in above
3 single acting ram from tail lift modifiyed with eye type ends welded on
4 about 4x2 box fixed in between the chassis rails for the front mounting
and a fabricated drop bracket welded to the middle of the ramp frame for the ram
to act on ....
