You are going to get so fed up with me living up to my nickname of Anxious Annie.

Brushing Drifters tail yesterday and as his mane is a bit scurfy I pulled all the hair apart to look at his dock!!

A handful came away in my hand. The vet was there giving him his flu jab and had a look. The very end of his dock is bald he has not rubbed his tail anywhere it is not hot or sore the underside is soft and clean like a babies bottom but when you get to the end of his dock the last inch has the hair falling out??

It does sound like he HAS had a rub, even though you haven't seen where. As a precaution I'd treat with a pesticidal/dermatitis shampoo, such as Mesadol (I think that's waht it's called!!!).

How long is his tail?

I ask because I noticed my horse had hairs hanging out of his tail and watching him in the field, it turned out that his tail was so long, he was standing on it when he was rolling.

I trimmed his tail and the problem was solved.

Just in case, might also be worth washing his tail with a tea tree oil shampoo.
