My friends horse has lost a lot of weight recently. She got her in September and she was very over weight. She lived out all winter, unrugged in a typical over grazed field. She got a scoop of low cal mix more to make her feel part of the gang and her weight remained good. On the slightly porkier side of good.

We have since moved to a new yard. Her mare (15.2 gypsy cob) has lost lots of weight. She looks ribby and you can see a lot of her bones. She is on two feeds a day of build up mix (1 scoop) fibre nuts (1 scoop) and a large scoop of alfa a. She comes in during the day for hay and gets hay in the field at night. There is little grass. She is turned out with my 14.2 appaloosa mare. My mare, if anything, has put a few pounds on and is doing great on just the hay in the field at night, and a small cup of low cal balancer. (she is currently being treated for possible laminits so there must be grass in the field)

My friends mare had her teeth done in April, all fine. They have just been wormed a couple of weeks back. The yard owner is so worried about her she has added a third feed a day and extra hay. We have all said she should get her looked at. She is such a good doer normally, but now she looks terrible.

It hasnt been a rapid weight loss, but she shouldnt look like she does on what she gets.

Bearing in mind this is not my horse, I have made my thoughts on a vet clear and was told she will she how she goes. So my question is, what could be causing the weight loss? I can answer any questions as I know the mare well.

**Please don't tell me to get the vet out, it is not my horse. I will ask my vet to look at her when she is next out checking my mare**

Thanks
