Really need one for my mare as she has too much grass and I can't get the weight off her!!

Recommendations!? I would like one that people have had good experiences with, really don't want it to rub her but want it to stay on!!

I think any of them cause a small amount of rubbing. I use the Shires bucket, she has a small (5p size) rub on her cheek where the velcro strap sits and she has a slightly larger rub under her chin (caused by the pressure of her pushing down to bite at the grass and then the release of the pressure).

That said the rubs are just bald spots, once the hair has gone the muzzle doesn't rub the skin further or cause the skin to break. Small price to pay for a non colicy, good weight cob.

If the Shires ones (which are good and tough) rub too much try a Roma one which is softer (but will last less long as eventually they make a hole in the rubber at the bottom which is also softer. You may need to headcollar over the top quite firmly if you have a sneaky pony who will remove the muzzle completely by lying on the ground and rubbing it off......

I have two horses one in a best friend and one in a shires, both are oversized and for this reason have never had one rub problem. The best friend I think is the better quality and comes in big sizes for cobs with big heads. They have two each one with a bigger hole cut out for new season so that they get used to it and when the grass is shorter. One took to it real easy the other 4 days of me babysitting him and perservering with feeding grass through the hole. Got there in the end, little monkey just lazy:D

Depends how much money you are willing to spend. My cob had the green guard one. Very expensive but it's in it's fourth year of use now. She took to it very quickly. It allows them to drink normally and graze normally. My equine dentist advised me to not use the shires bucket style one as it caused excessive wear on the very front teeth.

I got the best friends 1 as said on website it didn't run-in it does! I've found customising it with sheepskin & cut up gel insoles on all straps & the bucket 2 as made big diff & doesn't rub at all & horse wears it every day

Greenguard every time. It takes a while to adjust the fit to be just right but once you get it right it works really well. My boy has been wearing on every spring & sumer for the last 5 years. He has no problem with it. Apparantly it's the only muzzle designed with the assistance of vets. They're expensive but they do the job well. They're still cheaper than getting a vet out for laminitis treatment.
