Some one who came to view shadow asked how he would deal if they used a horse nappy on him! I was shocked as id never heard of one. Apparently they had seen them in the USA and the were a kind of bag that went round the horses back end and collected all the poop during the night, in the morning you would unzip it into a bucket, and there would be effectively no mucking out to be done

. I was horrified at the idea, as the thought of a bulging poo sack between my horses back legs for 8 hours was horrible so i told them no way was he going to put up with it. Has anyone else heard of them, and are they as bad as they sound?

These people sound like complete idiots, I personally think it would be very cruel to a horse.

I hope you chewed their ears off about the subject and told them where to go

they use them a lot for research when you have to analyze how much a horse poo's. a girl at college used one for her disertation do she could calculate how much DM went in vs. how much came out.

I wouldn't thinkit's very nice for a long term proposition though!!

They use these things in the ski resorts in the Alps - Zermatt springs to mind - because horse poo obviously spoils the asthetic qualities of all the horse and carriages traipsing 'round the village with fat tourists on board.

I've seen them on carriage horses in Salisbury too. If they are that bothered about poo why don't these companies employ someone to nip round with a bucket? Not quite sure what they do about the police horses in London but they have 'pooper-troopers' out after the cavalry horses.

I've just had a thought. You know with all the rash of posts about people giving riders grief about picking up their horses poo when out and about - this may well be the governements anwer to the problem. Imagine if they became compulsory for horses on the road! The mind boggles.

Have seen horses at Euro Disney wearing 'nappy sacks', so the little kids didn't find the horse poo more fun to play with than Snow White.

But seriously, can you imagine having your poor horse strapped into one of those things at night? By the time it had done 8 poos and 2 wees it'd be like a low-slung pack horse!!!

sorry but WTF! There is no way I would ever inflict this on Pidge. When in over night he can easily fill half a big barrow just with poo and can do several wees as well. Can't believe someone even designed and made these, what is the world coming to................

Hilarious thought, just picturing it has made my day!
Seriously though - what a horrid idea. I can understand them using it on carriage horses out and about on streets but otherwise-NOOOOOOOO!!!!

will we now see nappies for cats and dogs?? or cows??

When people make a fuss about your horse's manure, tell them that it's non-toxic and unlike dog dirt, safe and won't spread disease. This is what the mounted police tell the public who seem to ask them all the time why they don't pick up their horse's manure!
