Horse narrowly escapes being crushed to death in stable

sorry to hear but what a lucky escape. my horse was killed by a tree last oct 17th, he was a big solid blk friesian cross 16.2. the tree wasnt even that big. he was only 9. the wierd thing was that the tree had already fallen down 8 months ago. it lay curved on the hillside with its roots sticking out and my beautiful horse william had some gotten himself stuck undernearth it, found him dead the next morning. still cant figure it out still have nightmares about it, he had a broken leg.. prolapse, and severe internal bleeding. cried for days. so please remove anything that could be a threat out of your fields you never know what damage it can do,!!

Precisely why I have left mine out, there are trees right behind the stables and if anything happened I would never forgive myself.
Really sorry to hear that donnab

Exactly, and mine are out too. Horses can hear a tree falling and run, but if stuck in a stable, have no escape.

That was my Vet's wife's yard! Luckily they were running 5 mins late to feed breakfast, else Lucy or someone else may have been at the door feeding the horse!

my mare was out 4yrs ago a big oak tree fell, and she ran through a post and rail fence, only days earlier we had taken the barbed wire that ran along the top of the rails off,she had a slight injury, but could of been worse.Where now in a livery yard, last jan 07 a block of 6 stables went airborn with the horses in,i was in there with the mare,it was awful thankfully no injuries ,when she hears wood breaking or the wind getting up shes petrified.

all horses and me were very lucky,it was a proper wooden stable block, they blew away like in the wizard of oz,it was awful,im so glad it happened in daylight when people were around to help.
