My sec d is pretty laid back. He can tend to be a little lazy at times. Due to being a good doer I have to watch his weight. Hes in good health and Has a small feed a day but can sometime lack energy.
I dont want to go the other way and make him nuts but he could just do with a little spark. I have someone coming from a feed company to give advice soon. Just wondered if anyone has any similar issues? He can not have alfalfa. I may have to start haylage too as he has developed a dust allergy.

Might it be worth doing a blood test to see if he is lacking anything? When I had this issue with my horse, it was actually a saddle fit issue, and she became a lot more forward in a different saddle.

I was told she was a 'plod' from previous owner, but the saddle was blocking her shoulders. Purely anecdotal, but an example of how not being off the leg could also be something other than feed, e.g. tack related.

First step, get him fitter, especially if prone to weight gain..

My boy only really gets fit with canter work.
I can hack and school until the cows come home but fast canter is the only thing to perk him up!

Once he is really fit, I just add plain rolled oats- nothing exciting or expensive!

Thanks, he has had his saddle checked but will keep it in mind as we had saddle fit issues in past. Hes recently had a blood test.

I have a very fit section C cross.

I find spillers stamina cubes give her enough oomph, without explosions.

(This morning excepted, when a motorbike went past, and she expressed her opinion 🙈)
I feed Spillers Stamina cubes to my dressage mare as I felt she just needed a bit more energy without getting silly. They really have helped and she is still sane and sensible just has that little bit more go.
