Horse NEVER licks!

I've had my mare for eight years and she has licked my hand only about 3 or 4 times in her life. When I put my hand out to her mouth, she'll smell it and figuratively shrug her shoulders. Why are some horses obsessed with licking people (and things), and why isn't mine? Anyone else's horse not like licking things...?

My horse licks my hands if they are salty, and if I give him something like a strong mint, he seems to think its really good to lick my neck with his tongue and I get all sticky. My worse nightmare would be to swim through treacle, I can't stand feeling sticky, so it really isn't very nice - you should be careful for what you wish for, lol.

I think some horses are more tactile than others, its taken the same horse about six years to actually have me put my arms around his neck without him stepping backwards out of the way!

Now in his old age (nearly 16) he has gone proper fussy!

My mare is the opposite! Licks constantly and chews everything she can get in her mouth!
