Hi I'm wondering g if anyone can shed some light on this ... Over the past week I have been feeding my 3 year old gelding whilst stables and whilst turning out and he seems to be off his food .. He eats half and then walks away but then comes back to Finish the rest which normally he will eat the lot with no break !
Past couple of days however he has been very off his food where he will just swish his nose around in the bucket and grab a mouth full and just swish it around while it drops from his mouth .. I've also noticed overnight he isn't drive king a lot of water at all ! There used to be at the most half a bucket of water left in the stable but now there's only a slight bit gone ... He doesn't seem his happy self either just seems to stand around all quiet and still .... can anyone point me in the right direction as to what it may be ? Thank you in advance
James

No advice I'm afraid but I'm sure one of the knowledgable people on here will be able to help. Sounds like something is amiss though so I would call the vet to give him a once over, better to be safe. Hope he perks up soon.

A couple of possibilities, there is something going on outside his stable which is more interesting than his feed ? Or the grass is growing and he would prefer to just eat that. A lot of horses can lose interest in hard feed this time of year. Have you tried to make his feed more appealing ?

I'd get the vet out. It could be an issue with his permanent teeth erupting, making him uncomfortable.

I would be worried about the drinking issue, you could be risking colic if you leave it too long.
