Horse not standing when trailer not moving

One of my horses has never been a natural traveller lets say! Took him over a year of regular outings before he'd stop jumping over the trailer breast bar and generally getting himself in trouble whilst in transit. Anyway, he's now a lot better and travels well. However, he is still not good at standing quietly if the trailer stops. He starts throwing his weight on the breast bar and kicking about. If left long enough, Im think he might start rearing and trying to get over the bar again. I rarely leave my horses in the trailer at events as I prefer them to be tied up outside (no moaning about that please), so I guess he's used to coming out once the trailer stops. Anyway, obviously he's had practice like at traffic lights / ques etc. and I try to leave him in for a few mins before letting him out at events.

However, I have just entered him for a big show in June. There are going to be ques, probably very large ones to get in. So Im panicking he's going to flip out! I figure while we're sitting still or moving at a snails pace I can go in with him and try to amuse him. Ill have a schooling whip in there just in case he started rearing up. But does anybody else have this problem? If so, what do you recommend?
 
I know someone who had a similar problem and found that the problem has completely gone with a new trailer (it wasn't the reason for getting a new trailer).

does he do it in company? maybe a calm travel buddy might help.

Perhaps just do a lot of practise of getting him used to standing the trailer and not going anywhere. maybe some short trips to somewhere safe where you can stop for a while (but safe to unload him if you have to). perhaps give him some feed? gentle break the cycle of stopping means time to get out and do something.
