Hullo! My mare will usually wee anywhere (and i mean anywhere, on concrete, when ridden etc, she has no shame!), yet recently (i.e. the last 5/6 days) she has stopped weeing in her stable. she is brought in during the day, between 7 and 8am then turned out once ridden in the evenings, at around 6pm. She has been in this routine for about 3 months now and is given soaked hay, and has a shavings bed on rubber matting. I have not seen her wee in the field either, although she must be, as otherwise she would be the size of a house! and she is not dehydrated.
Could this be an indication of anything wrong? or shall i just shut up and revel in the fact that it is saving me alot of effort when mucking out!!

Odd... it certainly is a long time to go without "going"!

Is she drinking the normal amount?

I have the opposite problem with mine, he doesnt wee in the field, so its like the floodgates have opened when he gets into his stable after being out all day! But he has always been funny about things like that....

There is a cob mare on my yard that is the same. Apparently from what I can remember she just stopped weeing in her stable and that was it. I did think it was odd and it did concern me about problems with water retention etc however I have witnessed her weeing in the stable on occasions if she was ever let out a bit later that usual. She must have gone because she was desperate to go in the end but beforehand she must have been fine becuase she had not peed overnight. I knew this because I mucked out a few times and her bed was always dry apart from the poo parts.
The mare seems totally fine healthwise so holding her wee has not seemed to have caused her any ill effects.
Even so horses are individuals and I would recommend discussing it with your vet to see if she has any underlying physical or psychological problem which is causing her to act in this way.
I know if she were my horse I would rather have the peace of mind and explore all possibilities, especially as it has been so warm and I would be worried about her not drinking enough fluids as she is retaining urine.
