Does anyone know any independant nutritionists in the North West of England, or someone who would be suitable via the telephone?

I would like to speak to someone about Grace so that I get everything right in the future now she has had the colic surgery... She has gone onto Coligone powder (thanks to H's Mum kindly dropping it off for me

) and is on Healthy Hoof while she is on box rest and haylage. But I would like to talk to someone about when she starts coming back into work etc etc.

Did the vet not send her home with a list of do's and don'ts? I truly think that any of the feed companies will tell you what you need to know (albeit directed to a particular feed or supplement of theirs) and outline why or why not feed certain things. From there, you can choose a feed of your own. Is she a poor doer?

Yes she has a list of dos and don'ts... but I want to get her feed completely right. I find when I speak to the individual feed companies they give me the reasons that their feeds are better than the one I am using, but I don't want that. I would like a completely unbiased opinion.

She is a very poor doer, and when she was in work she was on Endurance Mix which was the only thing she would eat, and the only thing that kept weight on her

I'm afraid i dont know of any - i know i looked for one a few years ago regarding my shetland - the things the feed companies suggested were hidious for a shetland doing no work!
Good luck in finding one and if you do find an independant one - i'd be grateful if you could pm me their details!
Also glad to hear that Grace has been allowed home!

Try Caroline from Baileys, she has worked for other companies and is not afraid of recommending the best product. I have to say she has been a huge help to me with Sovereign's poor feet, and I did tell her I didnt have a fortune to spend on supplements.
I also used to look after her little appy Harry, who was very colic prone (cant remember why) so she does have a huge wealth of knowledge.

I know this site is under re-construction atm, but Ellen is WONDEFUL!!! http://www.ellencollinson.co.uk/ She is a nutritionalist, herbalist and an irridoligist (SP?). She was kinda responsible for the re-birth of the Soaked Oat Diet!! If you want to contact her, I have her number......

Ah, now here lies the problem... Grace is pretty fussy what she will eat. She is not keen on Alfa A Original, and even less keen on Alfa Oil (in that she sniffs it and turns her nose up at it

).

I will definitely keep her on the Coligone powder now. I would ideally like her on a pure Alfa A diet, but the bugger won't eat it

Have you tried her on Alpha-beet? Horses either love it or hate it! B won't eat it when she's not pregnant, but happily eats when preggers!! Contact Dengie and ask for a sample bag - ask for some Alpha-A Lite too - less molassed! That way you won't waste any money and feed.

Happy hoof is good - or you could try hi fi senior which has timothy grass mixed in which H loves! Alternatively I know FRESHMAN has had success with Winergy's Equilibrium?
