Around 2 months ago my horse didn’t feel right, stuffy, braced back sometimes looking a little lame.
He has history of hock and front fetlock/ navicular issues and my vet felt that his stuffiness was a result of his old issues creeping back.
Rather than go for steroids into joints (when we have quite a few suspect joints) we’ve gone for cartophen injections. He’s recently had his last one and the vet said I should be seeing the full benefit of the injections now.
He’s feeling less braced and is moving better, but he’s not 100%
And this evening during schooling I found he was offering canter rather than give me a good trot. It’s not a ‘keen’ canter, it feels like he’s picking a gait he finds more comfortable.
Is this behaviour likely to be due to pain/ discomfort?
And if so, is it usually associated with any particular issue (ie is this suggesting hock discomfort or front fetlock / navicular discomfort?)
Vet is due to check in on us this week anyway, just wanting to get a feel for whether this is something I should be concerned about.
