Hi I was just wondering if anybody has experienced a horse who is on forehand on the lunge, but when you ride she isn't.

I've had her for three years, and she slipped on concrete few months back and was treated for si, which she has has one set of injections and has improved, now back in work we have noticed the following

On forehand on lunge with no gadgets on
Transition from canter to trot dropped both back legs unless she is round and working over her back
Tight behind saddle, yes saddle has been checked three times and having a second opinion

She had a trot up and not lame, and level behind, but moves better when on back

Doesn't seem to be in any pain anywhere

Any thought please

A common mistake is to pull the horse towards you on the circle, this will encourage it to fall onto its inside shoulder and then go on the forehand. If the horse is rushing it will also go onto the forehand.

Use lots of transitions within the pace, i.e. collected trot (I use the word 'steady' so my boy slows down but I encourage movement of the quarters by raising my whip at the same time). Then go into a medium trot by driving the horse foward and swinging the whip along the ground behind the horse. This is what I do with my horse, and he knows exactly what I mean.

Direct transitions will come with experience.

I never use gadgets on my horse and lunge in a dually.
