Horse on Loan

HELP I am at my wits end, 18 months ago I reluctantly put one of my horses out on loan because of my ill health I told the girls who had her all her bad habits infact I over stated them as I didn't want her to be shoved from pillar to post. All was agreed and they were going to do lots with her, guess what.........they haven't! only when my husband and I went to take her, now she is lame so I told them to get the vet (my vet) now she has to go and have an x ray which fingers crossed they are taking her for on friday (which I am very dubious about) we can't go as I have just had my 4th hip replacement and my husband is very busy with work and looking after me. As you can guess I am now in a catch 22 situation as I am not fit to have her back and I know no one else who could take her especially lame, also I think they should look after her and pay, I have kept up the insurance on her. I know in the end she is my horse and I dont want to see anything happen to her but in the contract they signed they were supposed to look after her properly
it seems to me that they were only interested when she was going ok and now I hear they have put her out in the field whilst lame which the vet advised them not to........I could go on and on but I suppose thats the risk you take when loaning ? any suggestions

Firstly - when she comes back to you will it be at a livery yard that can do full livery?

Secondly, how about contacting a welfare organisation that would take her for you - especially if you are able to make monthly contributions to her keep.

Thirdly Henry Horn on here has a retirement livery and may be able to help you.
 
Thanks for that but she is only young and it would seem a shame to retire her. Also I can't afford full livery, a friend is looking after my other horse at the moment. thanks for the thoughts though.
 
I think your most sensible option then is to get her well and sell her then. However It still may be worth contacting some like Henryhorn - whose rates whilst you sort things out may be quite reasonable.
 
Poor you I know how you feel I have said on here before about a horse I had I put on part loan and found the mare barely able to stand, when I CALLED THE VET she was tied up and bruised feet, so bad ito the mare would have had to be worked hard on hard and stoney ground the girl never came back afterwards and never even called I later found out she had been on very long hack galloping most of it, reason the horse went on loan I had no time for her so had not been in work for a while. Pity you not nearer to me as am looking for one to buy but would consider a loan
 
Yes wish you were nearer too, she is a lovely mare her jump is excellent she is just wasted where she is she is still youngish 8 so when she is better (fingers crossed) I will sell her, such a shame as I bred her so she is special to me which is what makes things worse. Thanks for your reply
