I agreed to trial a horse from a friend for my husband with a view to buy after Christmas. It now turns out that the horse is totally unsuitable for him as it has extreme separation anxiety when away from other horses and stresses right out when kept in at night. I am unable to to keep him outdoors at my current yard during the Winter. It was only a verbal agreement and nothing has been signed. When I spoke to the owner regarding taking the horse back they were agreeable and said they would arrange to take him back. I have been waiting for a week now and no further arrangements have been made to take the horse back despite phone calls and texts. I dont know where I stand as if he is not taken back by next weekend another months livery will be due. I have a funny feeling that they are just going to leave the horse with me for the Winter. I am unsure what to do? Does anyone have any ideas?? Thanks

Send them a text or ring them and say i will forward on invoice for next months livery, as it will be due next week and as i am not keeping i am not paying this.

Dont worry about sounding mean or falling out, by sounds of it theyre perfectly happy to stitch u up for the livery money and also shouldve told u this horses quirks before bringing him to u!

What was said on the receipt when you paid for the horse? did it mention the trial (interested as I would like to do a trial before I buy)

Try another phone call and explain that you have already given over a week's notice to return the horse after an informal arrangement, and therefore you will be delivering the horse back to them on whatever date. If it's answerphone then leave a message to that effect and deliver the horse. They are taking advantage of you. They were probably rubbing their hads with glee that they had got winter paid for for their horse til at least after Christmas. Don't let them get away with it - it's just downright rude!
