If you viewed a horse and was allowed it on trial with a view to buy but it needed work doing to it before you took it for the trial.

I.e feet need doing, vac's not up to date, would you offer to bring it back up to date but with the costs reflected in the price.

Or would you just accept the costs? Or wait until the owners had sorted it out?

I would expect the horse to have decent feet, either shod or un-shod. As for vaccinations, many people only vaccinate for tetanus. I would not bother with the vaccinations until I had decided to buy it. Then it would be down to my personal choice.
 

I would want it shod before taking it.

Some livery yards may not allow the horse on the premises if the vac's aren't up to date.

What if you don't buy the horse at the end of the trial? You could end up paying out well over £100 for shoes and vac's which you wouldn't get back if you decided he wasn't the horse for you.
 
It really annoys me when people don't get their horses feet done when they are selling them so I would definitely want the shoes done.

As for vaccs, I wouldn't worry too much as long as you will not be going anywhere that requires up to date vaccs. If you do take the horse you will have to start from the beginning again anyway so a week or two shouldn't make any difference.

The thing that would worry me is that if the seller hasn't bothered with feet and vacs, what else have they not bothered about. Definitely worth getting a worm count don if you do go ahead and buy.
