Hi

I was just wondering if anyone had taken any of these exams and what they thought of them, I dont want to teach or anything (which is why I am thinking of doing these instead of the stage exams leading to BHSAI etc). I have looked at the BHS website which gives you the syllabus but no idea of how to find out if anyone does any teaching in my area (Yorkshire) or where I would have to go for the exams.

Thanks

The Horse Owner's Certificate has four levels, with a written exam paper at the end of each before you get the certificate at that level. They're designed for anyone interested in horse care and welfare, including those completely new to owning horses - so even if you're not interested in doing BHS stages, they're a great way to gain confidence and increase your knowledge. Training courses and exam papers are normally organised by BHS Registered Instructors - have a look at our website to find one in your area who offers the Horse Owner's Certificate.

You can also contact an Approved Centre, agricultural college, riding school or local education authority to see if they are running a course, and there are distance learning courses available from Lingfield Correspondence and Equine Distance Learning. There's more information, recommended reading and sample papers on the website.

I did level one at college and passed it with 100%. It was interesting, but I didn't learn very much to be honest.
