Hi All

Whilst chatting to my vet last week I mentioned having had a bad back for many months and was awaiting the results of an MRI, she said she thought it was a common ailment due to the hard work of horse ownership! Do you agree? Any personal experiences?
I have been diagnosed with lumbar spinal stenosis 😞 and have a steroid injection booked in for 3 weeks time so also interested to hear if anyone else has had this and did it help! Thank you ☺️

We get strong but we're in dysfunction (just as I bang on about horses being in dysfunction!) so it's a great idea to do some off horse strength and conditioning work, especially in order to rehab when you've had problems, but far better to do it as a preventative. Most horse riders are broken in all sorts of ways and it actually affects the horses we ride, much more than we realise.

Hope you get some relief soon, and if you'd like to check out some off horse help then I recommend Equimech, based in NI so online for most people, and Blue House Pilates in the north east, also a good online offering.

Bad backs are just incredibly common amongst humans,,, we walk upright we have got tall… it all adds up to lots of forces and tbh it’s computers, screens and sitting on sofas that really doesn’t help. Horse riding is great core exercise which on the whole helps with back pain.
