horse paces!!?

my horse paces up and down the fence line all the time shes turned in at night and thats where she wants to stay! she is on her own but we have tryed putting her in with others but she never gets on with them this is also destroying the field and the front is a flooded massive ditch and only her fields have it does any one know of any way around this?
 
Find her company she does get on with. And bring her in overnight if its only at night she does it. Does she have forage & shelter?
 
Is there adequate grazing or forage in the field? My ex racer paces when the other horse is brought but she has almost stopped now but a different situation to yours so hard relate

Do you know why she is pacing?

I would be tempted to try and make her field more interesting, put feed balls out maybe put some buckets of readi grass or something around the field and piles of hay. You try putting large objects along her pacing line to make it more difficult.

I would try and find a quiet equine companion that has a compatible personality with hers, all horses should have equine interaction and she sounds stressed.

Because if its possible to make her comfortable out then surely that's healthier for the horse. Try all options first! :)

OP is being out for this horse a new routine? Was she previously kept in?

Sorry, but why is putting a neurotic horse out when it wants to be in healthy?
 
I'm all for horses being out as much as possible, but firstly the horse needs to be happy with it. And secondly during a damp, wet february is not the time to get one liking overnight turnout.
 
As someone who has all of mine out 24/7 and absolutely prefer this for the horse... I agree totally with Cortez and LL.

Work on it when there isn't snow/rain/wind/mud/no company.

Make sure there is good shelter. Some of mine will not bother with a field shelter and stand in the rain or under trees, others love the shelter. Decent forage too. And I'd also be putting things to work her mind out too as she hasn't currently got a horse for this.

I agree with finding a horse she gets on with... What was the problem before and where/how did you introduce?

I agree keeping her out sounds although it's upsetting her and she might end up with ulcers .
There is no point in leaving a horse pacing a fence , you will also need to find her apporiate company she can cope with to have any chance of settling her .
We had a horse with ulcers arrive on the yard the specialist vet stressed that I must not leave her out if she was fretting to get in ( she was a bit anti turnout too she liked two hours so that's what she got).
 
If she likes being in, leave her in. All horses are different, and they're not the same as wild horses. I have a cob who loves being in in winter, so he stays in. It's not just the field that's being trashed, it's also the horses' legs.
 
i dont really want to keep her in asshe is 18 stables are really small so want her to stretch her legs through the day but i might have to if she keeps doing it...
iv tryed putting her in with other horses down my stables but she dont get on with them and buying a new pony isnt a option..thinking about putting hay out more regualy at the time she starts moving towards the fence
