My mares passport is issued with The British Driving Society.... She is not a driving type of horse.

My coloured cob gelding...... his passport is with the Cleveland Bay Society

Shouldnt passports be registered with a society that fits the horse?? Seems a bit strange to me

Not saying their is anything wrong with it. Mine was originally issued by passport agency limited but they ceased trading and was taken on by the donkey society. The ironic thing is my OH has always called my horse "the donkey"

Possibly a stupid question but I was talking to my non-horsey friend about my boy's passport the other night
- told her it was an irish horse register one and tried to explain there are loads of agencies issuing passports for horses rather than one governing body like for human british passports (my mum put in "except the irish", to which my friend asked "do irish people not have passports then?" :p Poor girl had been working hard yesterday and was a bit tired :D) -
anyway, was wondering why there isn't one governing body for issuing equine passports, would it not make the whole process a bit easier and also easier to controll etc?

They did start out with just a few passport issuing companies- PetID and the Horse Passport Agency but since then all of the breed societies and such like have cashed in on it by offering indiscrimitate passports to all and sundry irrelevant of the breed or type of horse which doens't seem to make much sense, as many of you mention above it then leads to confusing issuers for horses that dont fit what you think should be registered with each society! Unfortunately also alot of poeple have just sought the cheapest passports, rather than those most applicable to their horse! Why they didn't just bring out one passport issuing agency for non-breed registered horses and ponies is beyone me... dont think they really throguh the plan thorough well enough! :)
