Horse playing with mullen mouth hanging cheek?

Finally got around to asking for my myler mullen mouth hanging cheek back to try rather than forking out for a 'normal' one, figured I might as well make use, the thing cost enough in the first place!

Dan decided it actually wasn't too bad, however when stood still or at walk, he almost constantly plays with it, lifting it and crunching it. Even instructor checked it, definitely not too high or low in his mouth.
He does do this with other bits though, jointed or not, however it seems to be the WEIGHT of the bit that affects whether he does it? He doesn't do it in his mullen mouth pelham (fairly weighty, as you can imagine with curb etc) or the lozenge full cheek, which is again reasonably heavy. Bits made out of lighter materials though or generally less mass, he's quite content to munch?

Tbh, I'm not sure whether it's anything to worry about at all. It's a bit irritating, but I'm reluctant to put him in a flash or drop as he hates the drop and the flash doesn't actually do much, he still munches. :p It's most irritating in walk, where he naturally shortens & tenses anyway, so then the munching intensifies as he uses it to vent a bit of his tension...

Any ideas?! :D

Other than that, it seemed good :) A bit revealing if anything - I can't 'support' him so much with the straight bar, much more even contact, so a few habits seem to have reappeared suddenly! That isn't really a bad thing though I don't think, just goes to show where we were going wrong.

Hmm, I just wish it wasn't so annoying! He does seem to be ok with it otherwise though, so I might just perservere and hope he gets bored of it eventually...... pft, well, I can hope?!
 
He's worn it before, just not for a while - he did it then too *sigh* I wont hold my breath I guess! I ought to be grateful that he doesn't actually do it as much as he use to, which was to the point that he'd have white foam dripping all over him & the floor, it was often commented that he looked like a rabid horse :o oops....

sorry, it's more like a erm, noise? Like erm, or hmm or.... I honestly have no idea :p Typing doesn't allow for random noises or talking with hands, or any of those things which I find very frustrating! Hope I didn't confuse you too much, I confuse me often enough :D
 
Hehe nope you aint confused me!!! My Welsh D loves chomping on his bit 2 and either has white froth all down his mouth or green froth from where he trys 2 sneak in leaves when being ridden little devil. Someone also told me that if they do froth at the mouth that the rider has a good contact with the horse and that the horse is listening to you :D Like you said atleast he doesn't do it as much!! If he carriers on and it drives you up the wall you could always try a heavier bit similar to the one you have, is that a possibility??

Have heard it, but I think he just does it to fool me ;) He's a lazy b*gger! Just remembered that this one also has those little copper bits... god help us, no wonder! Silly, silly horse... (Baffled why copper is good though, I think it tastes awful!? Is this just because I'm not a horse?! :p)

The lead weights are multi-purpose, they weigh his head down too :D Will have to fish them out.....
But yes, it is an option :)
