Horse Portraits - Recommendations?

Hello All,

I want to commission a painting/portrait of my Mum's horse for her 60th birthday in November. I am thinking of putting wheels in motion now as she is off on holiday for 2 weeks on Monday, so would provide ample opportunity for extensive photo taking in her absence.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I am based in Kent, but could take the photos myself. Don't have millions to spend

but anything under the £500 mark would be considered. Any thoughts greatly appreciated!!

I could do a head portrait in oils of your Mum's horse (unframed approx. 16" x 20") from a decent size photo for £200. This is one I did some years ago of Desert Orchid which was signed by all the jockeys and fetched £260 for the BFSS.

The pic. below is of my friend's Fell pony.

The pic. on the right of my signature below is an oil painting of a hound which I walked a few years ago.

It depends what style you are looking for! personally I am not a fan of paintings that look like photographs although they are very clever works of art! You might as well just take a picture with a digital camera! My friend does looser works of art: www.equestrian-portrait.com - although I don't think her website shows her off to the best of her abilities! She did a great three headed portrait of a horse called Castaway for another friend, and a fab one of Henry for me when I bought him.
