I'm currently looking for a little project and have been browsing all the usual for sale sites. I cannot get over the sort of prices people are asking for 'project' horses that in many cases sound downright dangerous or for unbroken, unknown 13.2 nondescript geldings. Now I know the right priced ponies are out there and I'm sure I'll find something, But anyone else noticing these silly prices? I guess prices will stay high while people are still willing to pay them...

i think prices for horses just now are really really high, thank god i got abby on permanent loan cause i seriously doubt i would of been able to afford a easy going allrounder at like £4000 i kno that doesn't seem alot to some people but i think thats a huge amount of money

Horse prices are high at the moment, but I always take the view that the price of the horse is only what someone wants to pay for it.
Going to have a problem soon valuing my mare. 14.3hh dark bay section D X Standard bred, as home is much more important than price, and she needs a one to one.

Horse prices at the mo are ridiculous. I can't get over what some are asking

Glad it's not just me that thinks that about Project Horses jojo.

They are a bit mad at the moment. I'm looking for a allrounder type youngster - nothing flashy. Can't seem to find anything under 3k. I'm only looking at 2/3 year olds as well!

JoJo where in the country are you as i picked up a lovely youngster the other day no issues for under 2K

I don't think it's just project horses, I think there are a lot of horses in general that are seriously overpriced! Before I saw my boy last April, I went to go and have a look at a horse that was at least £3,000 more than it should have been. The people were idiots too, glad I didn't go there but felt so sorry for the horse.

As for houses, you should try living down here!!! Absolutely ridiculous!

Achem keep searching Ifound a very nice part bred andalucian for the exact amount , 9 months later am happier than ever with him. I saw some reall horrors in the same price bracket to.

I nearly posted something about prices this morning, having done the daily rounds of the web sites.

I cannot believe the prices some people are expecting to get and also the variation between advertising web sites.

Even some of the horses on the Project Horses web site have £3k price tags...are they joking!

As has been said, anything is only worth what you can sell it for. You may advertise a horse for £4k, but that does not mean someone will pay it.

but when you advertise horses cheaply (for a valid reason - injury to owner/rider) people think there is something wrong with them! I've got a lovely 5yo Irish Tb mare, just backed over the winter before my accident, and at 2k people think there must be something wrong with her, yet she's clean limbed, no vices just green. Think I should double the price as I might get more interest

I agree, prices are shocking just now! Im most shocked by really basic looking scruffy pony prices. And anything which is advertised as safe (ie. its an ABSOLUTE plod, totally lazy as hell!) are going for £3500 plus!!! What the hell!

I couldnt afford the horses I have thats for sure. It even makes me feel I should be selling one of mine because he'd be worth so much just now!

My TB X WB mare rising 5 is a nice laid back allrounder type, ca 15.3hh. I would take 2450 for since I need a quick sale however I have a professional estimate her to be 3-4K. She is a nice sensible horse and schools fine & does little hacks but has not done much.

I have have seen lots of 4-5 year youngsters advertised for 3500-4500 without pedigrees or competition records, but occasionally one can also come by well bred warmbloods for ca 3500, so I guess it all depends??

Volatis - I am wondering about the same thing - I will problably need to readvertise and wonder whether to bring the asking price closer to 3k in case there is more interest in that price bracket...
