My lovely OH has agreed that we need to buy me another horse next year, as Ted will need to be retired and my sisters KWPN, lovely as he is, isn't really what I want. He's a serious dressage horse and I want a fun RC type.

It's been at least 7 years since we last bought, and from having looked in H&H, prices seem to have dropped a lot since then, but I could be wrong!

I would prefer an irish x tb or cob x, 15hh to 16hh, to have fun with doing rc activities and hacking in forest/beach and possibly hunt. It would need to be safe and uncomplicated as my mum would also like to hack/ride in school. How much should I expect to pay for something like this?

I have worked as a groom in the past and have years of experience with horses/riding but don't have time to train a really green horse. I can probably spend around £5000 but would obviously prefer to spend less than this if possible. Am I likely to get something for this budget?

I bought mine last November and it had been a similar amount of time to you since my last horsey shopping/ I found the same as you that they seemed to be cheaper now than they were then.

I got a lovely 6yr WB for £2400 ok he might not be suitable for mom to hack purely because he is quick and bouncy not because he doesn't anything. So yes I would think you will get something easily!!!

When I bought my last horse in 2006, there was nothing decent on the market for less than £3000, now if you have £3k to spend you have quite a lot of choice, so I would expect to find something quite nice for £5k.

I expect prices to drop further in the allrounder market what with people losing jobs/going out of business, the fact that people can no longeer borrow money easily and the rising price of hay and grain.
