We are in the process of building an American style barn with four stables. Can anyone recommend a good way of horse proofing the light switches?
The Horses will have 24/7 access and the switches have to be low enough for us to reach so a cover of some sort is needed.

You can get covered and also lockable light switches (for industrial use) from most electrical wholesalers. Make sure that all your wireing is waterproof and placed within metal conduits so that rats and mice can not eat away the insulation which can cause shortcircuits and fires.
Also install a sprinkler system in the event of fire.
There is a very good book called Guidelines for fire safety in equine and agricultural premises by Harry Paviour ISBN 0-900226-69-2 which is available from the British Horse Society (BHS) bookshop.
