Poor horse. Wonder if it was the effects of sedation, dead legs and the cold that took it so long to stand up? Bless the fireman too, must have taken ages!
I did think at one point that it looked like a back/neck injury, but probably think it was due to the heavy sedation. Glad so many people came to the rescue though.

I saw this yesterday but did not know how to link to it, I wondered if the man at the head end was the vet or a firefighter but either way he deserved a medal, he was calm and brave and did his best to keep others out of danger, just what you want in that sort of situation-he also clocked that the lorry reversing was causing the horse to become distressed.
very distressing to see horses trying to get up when coming round, I thought the whole situation was handled very well.
wonder what had happened to lead up to what was shown on the video
From what I think happened beforehand, (nothing confirmed though), was riding out inthe woods, rider jumped log, which unfortunately had a bog on landing, and poor horse sunk and got stuck.
It did look a suspiciously poppable log, but it's really unfair to speculate. Was a bit off the trail so horse might have freaked itself sideways into it or anything. Would rather give the rider the benefit of the doubt over jumping into something that deep!
Absolutely amazing rescue. They were all heroes. It was pitiful listening to the poor horse whinnying. I couldn't believe how long it took to get the horse up. They all looked very professional though and thank goodness for a happy outcome.
Thankfully, in Britain we have a much more effective and less stressful method of rescue for horses in that situation. That all seemed like a bit of a car crash of a rescue tbh. Huge respect for those that did though. What a great outcome.
