Any body want to help with my college work?? :o

A situation you would use these in and the benefits of using them and not another?

• Bridle
• Chiffney
• Twitch
• Pinching skin on neck
• Holding up leg
• Lunge line

Any help would be great, thank you!

Bridle, holding leg up and twitch would use if necessary for vet or other examination/ treatment.
Chifney I might use to lead/ load.
Tend to prefer a stallion chain to lead in tho.
But above all, I tend to insist on good manners so have only ever used them occasionally & in the short term.

• Bridle = leading strong horse/on the road/genral control
• Chiffney = strong/bolshy/rearers/racers and stallions commonly used, more harsh than the bridle
• Twitch = temporary solution to settle a horse for jabs/clipping etc
• Pinching skin on neck = milder version of the lip twitch, good for headshy horses or quick solution
• Holding up leg = stop horse kicking, ie treating mudfever/clipping legs/vet examination etc
• Lunge line = leading/loading difficult horses

Any help would be great, thank you!
hope that helps

• Bridle When riding, to offer greater control for safety
• Chiffney Have only ever used once, to lead a very strong horse onto the box and was a final measure with a professional doing the handling
• Twitch Personally have only ever used once for vet to inject a colt with sedation, would usually use 'neck twitch'
• Pinching skin on neck preferred method whenever twitch is needed, used a few times for vet to look at very nervous mare
• Holding up leg I have never had to resort to this for any reason
• Lunge line Other than the obvious I have used to lead strong or giddy horses although I prefer a 12ft rope for this

I tend to prefer things such as a rope halter or dually to give greater control where needed rather than using a bridle in situations other than riding, I don't think I would ever have the confidence to use a chifney myself, the one we have was purely bought for a professional to load a dangerous horse for us and used just the once. The neck twitch I would use whenever I needed a bit of quick control in a vet situation, most of the time I would expect our horses to just stand and be dealt with, using rope halters or dually if necessary.

I assume this is for your NVQ (2?)

Whilst asking for examples or answers here might entertain you, you need to supply the correct answers to the questions, which you can then embellish with your personal experience.

So, for example, you could use the bridle is a level of control above a headcollar for leading or loading a lively or unknown horse; the next level up may be the chiffney, particularly if the horse is known to rear, as this is what the chiffney is designed to combate. So you might use the bridle is a control and restraint measure if the horse is unruly or has a tendency to run away, but no tendency to rear.
