Hi all, thanks for looking if any one could help or knows or any where or one that could pls let me know...

I have a 24 yr old mare that I have owned for quite a few years, she is perfectly healthy and well but my mum has had an accident and is unable to look after her, I am currently at the other end of the country working as a groom so I have little time or money to keep her, if I cannot find a home for her she will have to be put down. She is great with other horses and will live out would make a good companion, shes fantastic with youngsters and foals. If any one could help please post.

Thanks all, for taking time to read this,

agree contact veteran horse society or what about loaning her yourself, is she able to be ridden.

no shes had a hard life bless her I have jumped her and rode her loads over the past 6 years I think she is ready to enjoy an easy life shes deserved it

Would it be suitable for light hacking? If it can be hacked out it would be more wanted as there is a demand for older horses that can hack out but do no schooling/work etc.
There seems to be a sudden burst of companion horses/ponies. We are called daily. I tell people to ring other charities but they tell me they are full.
We have a waiting list of people that want a light hack but also a waiting list now of people needing to sign over companion horses.
It is getting worrying.

Have you thought about retirement livery? There are a number of very well run professional retirement yards who offer retirement livery from out at grass 24/7 to the full works, at very reasonable prices. There are people on the forum who may be able to help or point you in the right direction. Which part of the country is your mare ?

Hi

If you get stuck I would be happy to take her on on a retirement livery out 24/7 at grass for a reasonable rate and would be well cared for. I have a livery yard in Wiltshire.

I saw this ad on Horsemart the other day - not looked into it but just tried the link. Mind you, doesn't look the cheapest but nice nonetheless.
