hi, i am not the thinest myself, but can just bout fit in to my horse gear.
my friend has started horse riding but she wants to get everything, a pair of jods, mine is too small for her, so cant give her a pair of mine. i took her into my local tackshop where she tried everything, got her a hat, protector, jod boots, even though she wanted long legged boots but wouldnt fit her, still cant get her any jods. i wear jeans too but she really wants jods
where sells horse gear for larger figures, she is size 20-22, i am 16-18 so i find i just fit them and no more. but i feel awful for her, she has tried soooooo long to lose weight so no harse comments please, she is riding a big clyde gentle giant in my local riding school as he is a big baby and looks after her. she is all into this and always wanted a horse, so if you know where i can tell her about horse clothes in larger sizes please.

She will probably be best buying on-line. She could look at Fuller Fillies or cavaletti clothing for a good selection. She will be absolutely fine on a Clydie. We used to have one who had worked in a RS, she was an absolute star in all circumstances and a fantastic confidence giver to both humans and equines.

I found these on ebay, and there are a few more 38" waist ones:)

I have recently lost weight, but even when I was a size 16 (with big boobs;)) I found I was at the top end of the equestrian clothing sizes, I know I wasn't small but a size 16 isn't that big! And although there are some companies now stocking larger sizes, I often found they were really expensive:(

Well done to your pal for taking up a new hobby, hope she has great fun,and you never know, it may even help her with her weight loss:D

Cavaletti are wonderful great customer service the Annabelle full seat breeches are lovely and your order arrives packed in tissue paper in a box a real treat to open.

I have tried Fuller Fillies and to be honest found the fit of their stuff odd and the customer service not very good at all and the goods arrived stuffed into a plastic bag.

As you can tell I am a Cavaletti convert

i am a size 20 and my horses weigh limit is more then i weigh.

i found hkm sport equipement wher good for jodpurs, 36 or 38, probably a 38 for 20-22.

also. fuller fillies although there jodhpurs can be really short. fine for anyone 5.4 and under tho. she would be able to get chaps from here as well, much easier to find in bigger sizes then long boots. i got chaps for my 19in calves and i found that the chaps were plenty big enough.

also joules go up to a 20 in some lines

it might be worth trying a differant tack shop because in my area some shops have nothing in my size while some have loads. also there are show jackets in sizes up to 24-26 so dont shell out loads for bespoke stuff. i got a size 22 jacket (for moving room) for £60.
good luck

Plus Rider are good and they also do made to measure. They do everything from chaps to show jackets. http://www.16plusrider.co.uk/

If buying from tack shops, might have to try on mens jods...most go up to a 42" waist. Once they are on you can't tell, the only difference is the button does up the other way.

Try the muck rider boots as they are elasticated.

Fuller Fillies but I've never used them.

I've used Loveson jods and Dublin, they seem to be quite stretchy.

thanks everyone this is brilliant news. i am meeting up with her later tonight for few drinks, will share the news with her, she will be over the moon.
ah she loves horses and really enjoying herself so i am so happy for her and didnt want her to have a downer on her size as she is a great wee rider and doesnt let her weight annoy her and didnt want it to start now, also her clyde she is riding is great for her.
thanks so much.

just thinking she is a 20-22. what size would you go in jods, i would go for the 22, but what is that in jods?? would a 38 be big enough for a 22?
thanks

Ooh she is the same size as me - and I am THE expert on plus sized riding wear!!

I have the Gallop jodhs from eBay, I have denim ones in a 38" which are TINY and way to small (think triple muffin top! :D) and the black ones in a 38" which are a great fit and I could have probably got away with a 36"

I also have some navy 'requisite' ones from Robinsons, again in a 38" but a 36" would have been a better fit (they have an adjustable waist)

My leather chaps are from Fuller fillies, I also have the 'Tyne Muck boots', which you can ride in but I don't really like to personally as they're a bit bulky - great for yard though.

Cheapo sports bra from George at Asda!! :p:D

I hope this helps a bit I know how daunting it can be going into a tack shop knowing that a size 14 can be considered plus sized in the equestrian world!

xx

Also Joules and Lazy Jacks do lovely tops for riding in that size

thank you so much for that, brilliant information, forgot bout robinsons, i love there stough. so 38 just incase, you can always return if not right cant you.
she will be over the moon, also you where saying a 38 needed in demie and a 36 in the black. the demie sounds cool, seen the bootcut on fuller fillies there and they look lovely but only black demie avaiable, the blue demie was nicer, think i will get them for myself, she really wants black jodhpurs. thanks again

I don't know if this is any help at all, but I use Musto Snug jods, because I'm allergic to nickel and try to avoid traditional ones with a hook thing at the waist.
I find them really comfortable (although they do eventually wear through in the er...seat :p).
I noticed that they go up to XL, don't know how big this is in terms of sizes, though.
S :D

thanks, i also have that problem, if you put clear nail varnish over nickle it is fine then. got that tip from gok well on tv not personally. it really works when i am wearing jeans, have to apply every few weeks, but great. thanks

Equetech also have a section for size 16 to 24...I have been blessed with particularly large calves and could not get in any standard long boot but Equetech's fitted a treat and have lasted really well as I ride in the all the time. However, I'm not sure whether they make them anymore but could be one to search on ebay for a used pair.
