ok guys im on my fourth livery yard now having moved up from kent about 4-5 yrs ago Im proper fed up with the attitude up here towards horseriding ant the fact were banned from going every-bloody-where.

im currently on a yard situated in lots (for up here) of countryside near beautiful canals owned by peel park holdings, and iv just got off the phone to them as they explained they wont allow horses on any part of th canal i quote "because horses are wide, and theres people walking with prams"

how many pram/horse collisions have been reported in the last billion years

PEEL park holdings are these people ironically

http://www.salfordforestpark.co.uk/sfphome.html

our yard is currently on the land this one is going to be built on and i bet it wont be £15 a week after this is built!!
what they going to do yes move on here you'll enjoy riding round boothstown ESTATE!!!!!!!!!!!!

it was the same at clifton country park and bridgewater park and worsley woods

so were putting together a letter for the MEN i thought maybe more people could get involved?

perhaps a peacefull demonstration during rush hour traffic

any problems in your area pls let us know

I live in worsley so not far from the farm where you are at im guessing but I keep my horse up in bolton because the hacking is so rubbish round here! Peel own pretty much everything in these parts

yeah thats right we're over the canal in boothstown great farm actually and we all hack out loads- we tend to go up the canal (up yours peel park) and then through worsley green down the old railway (through about 6 signs that say NO HORSES) line and back through the marriot hotel golf course!! actually were not allowed to ride on any of that apart from i think the marriot dont really mind!

its a joke-where we ment to go down the lancs? and round the roundabout at the john gilbert!! lol

i dont under stand what the effing problem is the old railway line is about 20 feet wide theres enough room for horse/bikes/and people!!!

where abouts in bolton are you i used to be on lavender fold in radcliffe- we used to get on the nature trail at maccyD's nr Asda

and when i was on clifton we used to get over the river irwell to get on there too! but it was very narrow with a steep drop-into the river!!!

Oh wow! That's like, next door to where my boyfriend lives, and we're moving to! Woop! It is right by the trafford centre, right?

I know! its bad enough driving on it sometimes never mind attempting to ride it! I see horses that have come through the woods (behind my house) and try to cross walkden road to get to the marriot and think if i were on my old horse I would probably be dead by now!

I was thinking about moving to new hill stud farm but the only place to hack is on the old railway line so decided to stay put for now. Im up in smithills, I only have to do about 5 mins on the roads to get up onto the moors and the gallops are about a 20 min hack away. Its about a 40 min round trip if the traffic is ok but its such a pain on turn out days when I need to be up 3 times a day!

Theres so much green space around here and almost all of it horses are banned from. The best hacking I have done in manchester was when I was at the manchester equestrian centre, we didnt pass any traffic and we had open fields and widish bridleways along the irwell.

If you lot aren't too far away from the Trafford Centre, why don't you try keeping your horses in Carrington? Dainwell, Carrington Riding Centre, North Cheshire Equestrian Centre and others all have miles of off road hacking straight on to Carrington Moss.

Or my old yard has a couple of spaces at the moment - about 5 miles outside Altrincham towards Lymm. Hacking means going on some roads but we had a farm ride on site and access to the trans-pennine trail. It's only "old yard" cos my horse is for sale not because I wanted to leave!

I used to live in Surrey by M25/A3 junction and the hacking was fab - people are always amazed when I say it's so much better down there, the hacking round Manchester is pretty lousy considering all the land around. There just aren't many bridleways!

How come you left MEC?!!

Ive only had my own horse for the past year. I learnt to ride there for a while, was one of the irritating kids that would help out every weekend and alllll summer lol. I left when the owners sold up as there was no buyer yet and moved to north cheshire! And I left there cos I stopped riding for a while during my a levels. Ive been at 4 riding schools in total and just had my horses at this 1 farm.

agreed nice yard but on a students wage? me thinks not
our yard is £15 a week £12 for haylage and £2 for straw so i pay £33 a week-beat that!

also i live in salford and think it would take too long to get to these places nr trafford centre although i have thought about it

My friend lives at MEC her fiance owns it iv been out hackin with her and it is good

Smithills in Bolton and its £41 a week but I put this down to having 2 outdoor arenas and a horse walker. Once I've finished uni and hopefully have a full time job I think I am going to have to move him closer to home unless I move up to Bolton otherwise I wont have time to do him in the mornings

you've probably said further up but which farm are you on?
