sorry its me again. i have to spend a weekend in Toronto soon in between 2 weeks at work there.. does anyone on here know of a good place to ride at the weekend? i would love a couple of lessons whilst out here as will be missing the horses like mad!

sorry, bit of a long shot - but thought i may as well ask. :)

PM Spring Feather she will probably know.

There are loads of barns around there ... wanders off to google. You will find North American English slightly different to English English, interesting experience though, especially the horses way of going :)

Laughtons for a start, Tessa may be a bit far out though, she is in Burlington. I will be back ...

I avoid Toronto like the plague I'm afraid :redface3: so I don't know a whole lot about what's available actually in the city. I do remember someone talking about a downtown (ish) riding stable a few years ago called Sunnybrook riding stables. Not sure if it is still around or what type of service you get there though, sorry. I know plenty of places out east of Toronto; riding stables and trail riding places. Do be aware that Toronto is a pretty vast city, it covers a massive land area so you'd probably need a car to get you out to these places.

Which area specifically are you staying in when you're in Toronto?

Apart from to Pearson (and that's hardly in the city) I have actually been into the city ONCE in seven years :)

Oh, annual visits to The Royal and shows don't count ;)

Did you go to see Cavalia when it was there?

The airport is really the only reason I ever head on down to TO as well. I do not like the city at all. It's just not a nice or pleasant or even functional city imo. I've been downtown quite a lot and every time I leave I think thank god that's over! lol!

I was offered tickets to go to Cavalia and if it had been out of the city I'd have gone. The Royal I don't mind though but only really to meet up with people (and for the food and drinkies at the restaurant next to the warm-up area :smile3:)

How's your moving plans going? Oh and another thing I've been meaning to ask you, does your dog Boston do stud service?

thanks Spring Feather. I am hiring a car so i can drive out to somewhere worth going to! woudlnt mind driving for 90 mins or so which i gather would get me to Niagara Falls. I will be staying downtown, Bremner Boulevard which is v near the CN Tower.

Now there is a trail stables around Niagara; Play and go stables or something similar. I've never been there but it might be worth having a gander at their website.

I was in Niagara Falls last week and it's really quiet at the moment as all the schools have gone back so you'll be able to get great views of the falls and wander around without tons of tourists about. If you stay over and go out for dinner go to the Copacabana, it's a Brazilian steakhouse and it's an absolutely awesome experience! I had some of my British family over staying and we went there and they just loved it! If you stay over there is a real cheapie hotel just around the corner from the falls, it's just a Best Western but it's okay and it's mega cheap at this time of year.

If you fancy driving 90 mins in the other direction (east) you'll find me :)

Hmmm...I think I should have started this thread a month ago! Had a fab 2 weeks in Toronto (with OH's cousin) and then a cottage near Maynooth. Too busy being tourists <blushes> in TO, Niagara falls on a relatively quiet Tuesday, CN tower, zoo (pandas), science centre, ROM, Casa Loma...so didn't look for stables till we headed to the "wilds", then had a 2 hr trail ride (western) from Highland Wilderness, would like to know if you've heard of them Springfeather? It was our first visit to your amazing country, and think I prefer Toronto to London...:)

Yes I know them. I bought a horse from them years ago. Maynooth really is out in the wilderness! Funnily enough we were up in Bancroft this morning delivering hay :)

Glad you had a good time though. It's always interesting to hear views from tourists to the area... and someone has to like Toronto :wink3:

Is the option vs London (as in UK)? I'm going to go Toronto then. :)

As cities go, I don't mind it, although that is probably because I know where everything is and, relative to almost anywhere in the UK, the driving is so easy. The joke is though I probably spend more time there now than when I lived in Keswick!

Glad you had a good time, OP, and got some riding in. Did you stand on the glass at the CN Tower?!??

and I am about the same in the other direction ;) :)

SF, house has sold, twice, and twice they have pulled out - blasted dreamers, so twice we have lost out on nice little properties, one near Foxboro and another nearer to you Havelock way think. We were going up last weekend to see a few around Marmora, Madoc and one just off the 62, not quite as far as Bannock - is it all forest up there? Oh, and just seen one tonight near Campbellford, too big for us though 5 bedrooms (albeit very small ones) - someone buy this house please. We didn't go in the end as we got a weeks notice to write our test and reckoned that we ought to do a bit of studying.

Boston says that he would be happy to oblige. will pm you, when I can remember how to turn it back on again :)
