Just looking for a little advice.

My horse got put out this morning and rolled in the field. She rolled too close to the fence and ended up getting her hind leg and front leg caught on the fence and got cuts over her. My YO noticed and took her in and cleaned it all up and put a thick layer of cream all over. I havent been able to see the zig zaggy cut on her leg due to amount of cream so I have no idea how bad it is underneath. ITs badly swollen and sore.
I'm going to cold hose it in the morning and see how it looks.
Would you guys phone the vet or what would you do about it.

I think I would clean it up asap and get the cream off for a proper look. It may need stitching. The later it's left the more difficult it is. Definitely clean it up and see. If it's still very swollen and looks badly torn or deep then I would definitely call vet.

What type of fencing was it, Ryelock?

I'm just annoyed as I got a morning off and someone else put her off. Been having issues with my phone so YO couldnt contact me so I didnt know til I got there in afternoon and by then it was dark and couldnt see much tbh. So they had already treated it as it was done in the morning. The cut on the hind leg is on the front of the hind leg from above the hock right down to just above her felock. So over the front of the joint. Thats why I'm worried about it.

If ryelock is what I would call chicken wire fencing its not that altho there is a little bit in the field. Its just plain wire fencing that can take a electric through it. If you understand.

Hi tensile wire? Wicked stuff! You won't be able to have it stitched now (if indeed it did require stitching), it's too late after the event and not with it having had cream smothered all over it. Do you know if it was bleeding? I guess not much? I would try to find out what "cream" your YO has put on it and I'd keep a check in case it becomes infected. There's not really much more you can do right now so no point calling the vet out tonight. Presumably your horse has been given some bute to try to take the swelling down a bit? And you have checked that there is heat still in the lower leg to make sure the blood supply is still circulating properly?

Yeah the hi tensile stuff. YO didnt reckon it would need stitching but would have been good to see it at the time. Yeah it was bleeding but they never said how much. The woman who saw it said it wasnt bleeding but someone went round and said it was bleeding and took her in.
Yeah she was given bute and it took me an age to get her to eat the stuff. haha But hopefully that willl help make her a tad more comfortable.
Yeah there is heat in leg all the way down altho its very warm where the cut is. Altho the poor thing wont let me near it for a decent feel.

It all sounds quite positive then. Is she happily putting weight on the leg? Give it a clean up and take the cream off it in the morning so that you can see it more clearly. Then assess the situation and see whether you think the vet should be called but there really isn't a whole lot the vet could do at this stage. Hope it all clears up well and without infection.

she is resting it most of the time I was up and I think she was lame but as it was dark It was hard to see.
Yeah was going to clean it up first thing and have a look. Thought I may phone my vet for advice and see what he says anyway. Then he can make his own mind up and can send him a pic once its all cleaned if it will help it.

Well went up first thing this morning to check her over and got as much cream off as I could. then cold hosed her leg and this is what she has done.
