My youngster is rubbing his hair off his bum. He doesn't have worms. And when I treated him for lice shampoo. Both times I shampood him I couldn't see any lice and we put pig oil and Sulpher on him and no lice came up. I don't know what it could be he hasnt rubbed a lot off. And doesn't rub in his stable. It usually when he is in the field on a fence or a tree. Don't know what it could be. Any ideas?

An information sheet would be lovely thanks :) but I'm pretty sure he doesn't because he has been on a strict worming program at my yard and have never come across any worms in his pop because I check it all the time with all my horses. Is it possible for him to still have them?

If he is casting his coat then he will be itchy. My mare is having a good few bum rubs at the moment - I find Head and Shoulders works a treat! Also try rubbing in some Aloe Vera gel, it's good for itchiness.

I would ask your vet about Pinworm, I believe they can be quite difficult to shift.

I know he is shedding a heck of a lot because he is covered in loose hair I can't seem to brush off. Because he a really wooly cob but yeah I will see about these worms because I would have thaught I would have come across them or seen them

Sounds like pinworm - and a lot of wormers just don't kill them (including pramox, which doesn't reach the hind gut effectively). Speak to your vet asap about it.

Panacur 5 day guard, or Strongid P 3 doses, ten days apart.

Disinfect stable and everything rubbed, change to shavings (eggs in straw if eaten).

Hope that helps :)

Sounds like pin worms. A horse at my previous yard had them . She wormed her horse regularly with all the right stuff but he still got them . The vet prescribed him something stronger and they went in the end

If you pm me your email address I will send you the info sheet. It is perfectly possible for a horse to have worms if it is on a worming programme, it happens all the time. If you are using the Equest prog then that doesn't really deal with pinworm.

Oh b@gger i noticed my girl had rubbed hair off either side of her tail today, going for a closer look in the morning now, please don't be pinworm!

Does Equimax guard against pinworm as put off of Pramox and was about to worm the yard?

Thanks for all your help :) have now foun the cause. It is actually a shampoo we used on hIs back end (because he was tried on haylege but was loose so was put back on hay. But I had to clean his back end) and I think I may have not washe it out properly or something because the rubbing occured after the wash. I have now washed his again with johnsons baby shampoo and he has stopped the itching.
